Mysterious Mushrooms

Discover the fascinating world of fungi with author and naturalist Susie Spikol!
From dissecting mushrooms to discovering what wild creatures depend on mushrooms, this program will bring the mysterious world of these decomposers to life.
One lucky participant will even be temporarily transformed into a giant mushroom! Mushroom scavenger hunt included!
National Donut Day

For the third year in a row, the Etna Library will be celebrating the greatest holiday of them all, National Donut Day, with free donuts!

Stop by anytime from 9-5 (while supplies last) for a sugary treat, and some coffee, too!
Crayon Contest

Saturday, May 31 from 10am - 2pm​​

Come to the Etna Library and make a piece of art using Crayons!
We'll hang all of the colorful creations up around the library and two lucky artists will win gift cards from Bean's Art Store in Hanover!
US Foreign Policy Under the Trump Administration

Elizabeth Shackelford will discuss the dramatic ways that US foreign policy has changed under President Trump.
Elizabeth is a lecturer at Dartmouth College, senior policy director at the Dickey Center for International Understanding, and a foreign affairs columnist for the Chicago Tribune.
Before joining Dartmouth, she was a senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs where she co-hosted the Deep Dish on Global Affairs podcast. Previously, she was a career diplomat with the U.S. Department of State for eight years, with postings in Poland, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, and Washington, DC. Before pursuing foreign affairs and diplomacy, Lizzy was a lawyer with Covington & Burling in Washington DC.
​
She is the author of "The Dissent Channel: American Diplomacy in a Dishonest Age," winner of the Douglas Dillon Book Award. She has appeared alongside Jon Stewart, Christiane Amanpour and numerous others in media.
Etna Community Singalong

There are Eco-friendly events and engagements happening in Hanover throughout the week of Earth Day! Visit Parks & Rec’s website for complete information. The Etna Library will be participating with:
An Earth Day-themed Story Walk in the hills of Hayes Farm Park.
A ‘Recycled Village’ ongoing craft, all week long, where patrons can add to ever-evolving mini villages comprised of recycled materials. You can make other Recycled Art all week, too!
A Recycled Art Show on Friday, April 25, from 3-5pm, where the Recycled Villages and other Recycled Art projects will be on display. Snacks and refreshments provided!


The Beginner's Guide to
Cemetery Sleuthing

​Your local cemetery is a time capsule. Each headstone is plastered with clues about the deceased, those who once walked where you’re walking now. A simple step through the hallowed gates can bring you on an adventure to explore symbolism, workmanship, and local history.
Join Erin E. Moulton, author of The Beginner's Guide to Cemetery Sleuthing, as we learn the meaning behind cemetery iconography, abbreviations, epitaphs and more!

Bilingual Winter Story Walk

​Join us for an English-Spanish winter Story Walk in the fields of Hayes Farm Park, behind the Etna Library. After our story-filled stroll, we'll make pinecone bird-feeders and enjoy hot chocolate!

This event is a collaboration between the Etna Library and the Hanover Conservancy. Please pre-register! (Registration is not required, but is helpful).

Love My Library

'Love My Library' is one of two fundraisers that the Etna Library holds each year.

Our long table will be filled with books that you can donate into our collection. For every book that you donate, we'll add a bookplate inside with a dedication of your choosing.
